The first step is to look at the configuration of the link or assignment to the CourseArc content from your LMS. To troubleshoot, check the following:

  • Is there a due date set on the assignment in the LMS? If the due date has passed the LMS will not accept the score.
  • Is there a point value greater than 0 set up on the assignment? If it is set to 0, a grade will not pass back.
  • Is there a limit to the number of attempts on the assignment in the LMS? If so, the LMS may reject the score.
  • Are there emojis or other special characters in the title of the assignment/link from the LMS? If so, they should be removed.
  • Validate that it is set up correctly as an assignment, and not just a link or external tool. If you are new to embedding CourseArc content, you can find articles about embedding CourseArc content with gradebook integration in most LMSs here.
  • Check the URL. It should match the URL you see in the CourseArc "LTI Embed" view.
  • Is there a long description associated with the assignment/link from the LMS? Try removing that.

There are a few other known causes of grade passback issues:

  • Is there an emoji in the title of the course? If so, try removing it.
  • Did students access the content by clicking on the LTI link from the LMS? Students should not be bookmarking the content and instructors should avoid sending out direct links to CourseArc content.
  • Is there a line item in the gradebook for this content? If there is not:
    • This course may be a copy of another course, and you are experiencing an LMS bug in which line items are not created for LTI assignments. You can try removing the link/assignment and placing it again.  Student progress will not be lost if you do this.
    • The assignment may not be configured correctly
