How do I add an Interactive Matching block?

  1. Navigate to the page and select Edit this Page. Find the position you want to add a block and select the plus (+) icon.Screenshot of a blank content page in Edit mode.

  3. In the Add Block modal, either: 
    • Use the Search field to find a block by keyword
    • Select a block from your custom list of Favorites
    • Scroll through the list of All Blocks to select one
    • Use the various Categories to filter by block type

    • Select a star icon to add or remove blocks in your Favorites list

  4. Select the Interactive Matching block. The Interactive Matching form will open. The form has two areas: the editing pane and the preview pane. Changes made in the editing pane will show in the preview pane so that the activity can be visualized as it is being built. There are two tabs in the Interactive Matching Block Form: Activity Settings and Add an Item.

    *Note: The AI Generate tab will also show if the AI Toolset package has been purchased, and if you have the AI Access global role.   5. Complete the Activity Settings tab with the following information:
    • Title: The default title is Interactive Matching. The title can be changed by entering a custom value in the field. The title will appear in the Overview page and the More Information area for learners and instructors.
    • Points: The points field will only be displayed if the module is being graded. As a default, the point value is set to 0. Change the point value if needed.
    • Title of Columns: The default title for the Title Column 1 field is Description, and the default title for the Title of Column 2 field is Answer. These column titles can be changed by entering custom values. The Description column will be stationary once the activity has been created, and the Answers will be movable choices that learners will move from the Choices column to the Answers column.
    • Distractors: Select the Enable Distractors checkbox to add additional choices that do not align with any given descriptions.Screenshot of Edit Interactive Matching modal
  6. To build the Interactive Matching activity, add items using the Add an Item tab. A minimum of two items is required. There are three types of items that can be added to the Interactive Matching Activity: Text, Glossary Terms, Audio, and Equations (if the Equation Editor is enabled).  See the links below to learn how to add the following:
  7. Enter text in the Description and Answer fields and then select the Save or Save And Add Another button. Each field has a 40-character limit. Repeat until all items have been added.

  8. Once all the required sections have been saved, select the Add Block+ button to save the block to the page.

  9. The new block will appear on the page in Edit Mode with a red, dotted outline indicating it's editable.

Glossary

  2. In the Select Terms from Glossary modal, search for the desired terms and select them using the checkboxes and then choose the Add Terms button.screenshot showing the select terms from glossary modal
  3. The matching activity will appear in the preview pane. Carefully review the choices and descriptions and use the pencil icon to make any necessary edits. Select the Add Block+ button to save the block to the page.

Audio

  1. To add audio, select the Select Audio button.

  2. Use the Select your audio button in the Audio field to choose an audio file from the File Manager.

  3. The File Manager modal will only display audio files and is filtered to Course Files by default. Adjust the filter if needed, then search for and select the desired audio file.

  5. Add a transcript for the chosen audio file in the Audio Transcript field and then enter text in the Answer field. Select the Save button.   6. The matching activity will appear in the preview pane. Carefully review the choices and descriptions and use the pencil icon to make any necessary edits. Select the Add Block+ button to save the block to the page.

Equations

  1. To add an equation, select the Insert a Math Equation icon √ in the Descriptions field.

  2. The MathType modal will open. Enter the equation and then select the OK button.

  3. The Interactive Matching form will reappear. Enter the answer. Select the Save button. Repeat until all items have been added.

    Note: If the Equation Editor is enabled, the Max Length of the Descriptions and Answer fields will increase from 40 characters to 2500 characters.
