- Select the Interactive Matching block. The Interactive Matching form will open. The form has two areas: the editing pane and the preview pane. Changes made in the editing pane will show in the preview pane so that the activity can be visualized as it is being built. There are two tabs in the Interactive Matching Block Form: Activity Settings and Add an Item.
*Note: The AI Generate tab will also show if the AI Toolset package has been purchased, and if you have the AI Access global role. For instructions on generating an Interactive Matching block using AI, see the related How do I use the AI Generate feature to create an Interactive Matching activity? article.
- Complete the Activity Settings tab with the following information:
- Title: The default title is Interactive Matching. The title can be changed by entering a custom value in the field. The title will appear in the Overview page and the More Information area for learners and instructors.
- Points: The points field will only be displayed if the module is being graded. As a default, the point value is set to 0. Change the point value if needed.
- Title of Columns: The default title for the Title Column 1 field is Description, and the default title for the Title of Column 2 field is Answer. These column titles can be changed by entering custom values. The Description column will be stationary once the activity has been created, and the Answers will be movable choices that learners will move from the Choices column to the Answers column.
- Distractors: Select the Enable Distractors checkbox to add additional choices that do not align with any given descriptions.

- To build the Interactive Matching activity, add items using the Add an Item tab. A minimum of two items is required. There are three types of items that can be added to the Interactive Matching Activity. (Note: if the Equation Editor is enabled, you will be able to add equations.):
- Text
- Add Terms from Glossary
- Audio

- Text: Enter text in the Description and Answer fields and then select the Save or Save And Add Another button. Each field has a 40-character limit. Repeat until all items have been added.
(Note: if the Equation Editor is enabled equations can be added in the text area using the Equation Editor, and the Max Length of the Descriptions and Answer fields will increase from 40 characters to 2500 characters.)
- Glossary: To add terms from the Course Glossary, select the Select from Glossary button.

In the Select Terms from Glossary modal, scroll or search for the terms you want and select them using the checkboxes and then choose the Add Terms button.
- Audio: To add audio, select the Select Audio button.

Use the Select your audio button in the Audio field to choose an audio file from the File Manager.
The File Manager modal will only display audio files and is filtered to Course Files by default. Adjust the filter if needed, then search for and select the desired audio file. Select the checkbox next to the file, then select Choose, to return to the Add Interactive Matching form.
Audio Transcript: Add a transcript for the chosen audio file in the Audio Transcript field and then enter text in the Answer field. Then select the Save button. Repeat until all items have been added.
- Once all the required sections have been saved, select the Add Block+ button to save the block to the page.
- The new block will appear on the page in Edit Mode with a red, dotted outline indicating it's editable.
Note: An Alternative Activity is automatically generated to provide learners another option for interacting with this activity.
- Select the Publish My Edits button to save the block to the course page and see the content as it will appear to learners.

- When learners complete the Interactive Matching activity, they can CHECK LATEST MOVE or CHECK AND SUBMIT the whole activity.
