1. From the edit page view, click Add To Content then click Add Block.

  2. Select Interactive Matching.

  3. The Add Interactive Matching editor will appear. The editor has two areas, the editing pane and the preview pane. Changes made in the editing pane will show in the preview pane so that the activity can be visualized as it is being built. There are two tabs in the Interactive Matching Block Editor, Activity Settings and Add an Item.

  4. Complete the Activity Settings tab with the following information:
    • Title: The default title is Interactive Matching. The title can be changed by entering a custom value in the field. The title will appear in the Overview page and the More Information area for learners and instructors
    • Points: The points field will only be displayed if the module is being graded. As a default, the point value is set to 0. Change the point value if needed.
    • Title of Columns: The default title for the Title Column 1 field is Descriptions, and the default title for the Title of Column 2 field is Answers. These column titles can be changed by entering custom values. The Descriptions area will be stationary in once the activity has been created, and the Answers will be movable choices that learners will move from the Choices column to the Answers column.
    • Distractors: Select the Enable Distractors checkbox to add additional choices that do not align with any given descriptions.

  5. Add items to the Interactive Matching activity using the Add an Item tab. At least two items must be added to the Interactive Matching block.
  6. There are three types of items that can be added to the Interactive Matching Activity. Note that if the Equation Editor is enabled you will be able to add equations
    • Text
    • Add Terms from Glossary
    • Audio
  7. To create a description-answer pair using text, populate the Answer: and Description: fields and then click the Save or Save And Add another button. There is a 40 character limit to both fields. (Note: if the Equation Editor is enabled equations can be added in the text area using the Equation Editor, and the Max Length of the Descriptions and Answer fields will increase from 40 characters to 2500 characters.)screenshot showing interactive matching editing modal, with the add item tab selected

  8. To add terms from the Course Glossary, use the Select from Glossary Button in the Add an Item tab. 

    • When the Select Terms from Glossary modal appears, scroll to or search for the desired terms. Use the checkbox to select the terms to be used, then click the Add Terms  button.

  9. To Add Audio, click the Select Audio button in the Add an Itemtab.

    2. The File Manager modal will be limited to audio files only. By default the File Manager Modal modal will be filtered Course Files. Change the filter if needed, search for and select the desired audio file.

    4. Add an Audio Transcript for the chosen audio file in the Audio Transcript field.
    5. Add the text in the Answers field.

  10. Continue to add items all desired items. Once all items have been added select the Add Block button.

  11. The new block will now appear on the course page in edit mode.
    Note: The Interactive Matching block is fully accessible, but an Alternate Activity is also automatically generated for learners who may require a different way of doing the activity.screenshot showing interactive matching block on a page while the page is in editing mode
  12. Select the Publish My Edits button to save the block to the page. The block and page will now show how it will appear to learners. screenshot showing interactive matching block on a page while the page is published
