A page template is a preconfigured page layout that serves as a guide for assembling a page of content. Page templates are built with best practices in mind and help create consistency within courses. Most page templates also contain language that helps content creators understand a template's purpose.

CourseArc has six page templates available:

  • Blank
  • Equal Width Columns
  • Sidebar
  • Introduction
  • Overview
  • Summary

Content creators can set up custom page templates with a Boilerplate Template.

Blank

If another template is not selected manually, the Blank template is the default when a new page is created. The Blank page template has a single column layout.

Equal Width Columns

The Equal Width Columns page template allows content to be created side-by-side in two equal-sized columns. To learn more about using the Equal Width Columns template, refer to How do I use the Equal Width Columns page template?.

Sidebar

The Sidebar page template allows side-by-side content. To learn more about using the Sidebar template, refer to How do I use the Sidebar page template?.

Overview

The Overview page is automatically added to all new modules. The Overview page is designed to inform learners of the learning objectives, identify how long the activities will take, and share any resources needed to complete the content.

The Overview page contains:

  • Objectives
  • Activities
  • Total Estimated Time
  • Resources

The Activities table cannot be edited. The Activity and Estimated Time columns are populated dynamically using the Properties box of each course page. As the Properties box on each page is completed, the assignments and estimated time will appear in the Activities table. If there are no graded assignments in a course, leave all of the Assignment fields blank and the Assignments column will not appear. The total estimated time is calculated based on the total time for all pages.

To learn more about the Overview template, refer to How do I use the Overview page template?.
