How do I grade student responses for the Writing block?

Student responses to a Writing block are reviewed and graded by instructors on the same course page as the corresponding Writing block.

Note: Writing block responses can only be graded from an instructor context in the LMS.

Instructor View (LMS)

Navigate to the course page with the writing activity that needs to be graded.

When logged in to the LMS as an instructor, student responses are presented in a tabbed format organized by grading status: UNGRADED, GRADED, and ALL.

UNGRADED Tab

The UNGRADED tab shows individual ungraded student responses. 

Use the Select a Student dropdown, or the << and >> buttons on either side of it, to navigate between responses. 

1. Review the student's answer, then enter a value in the Score field. Enter feedback for the student, if necessary.
2. If the student is permitted to retry the activity, set Allow student to retry to Yes. Setting this option to Yes allows the student to redo the activity and earn a different score.
3. Select SUBMIT & NEXT to save the score, feedback, and retry setting for the selected student response.
4. The next ungraded student response appears. Repeat steps 1–3 for each remaining response.

GRADED Tab

The GRADED tab shows individual graded student responses. Use the Select a Student dropdown to switch between them.

Note: The << and >> buttons appear on either side of the dropdown only when there are multiple graded responses.

ALL Tab

The ALL tab shows a flat view of all student responses, both graded and ungraded.
