The Survey block allows instructors to elicit learner responses using customizable surveys. Survey responses can be set to display to instructors only; or to display to instructors and learners. Learner responses may be anonymized.
The Survey block has five question type options:
- Short Answer (learner enters free-form text response)
- Long Answer (learner enters free-form text response)
- Multiple choice single answer (learner selects one preconfigured response)
- Multiple choice multiple answer (learner selects multiple preconfigured responses)
- Likert (learner selects single preconfigured response [strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, and strongly agree]).
- From the edit page view, click Add To Content and then select Add Block.
- From the Add Block modal, select Survey.
- The Add Survey form will appear.
- Enter a title for the survey and the points to be awarded to learners that complete the survey. The Visibility of Results: setting determines who will be able to view the survey results. The Anonymous: setting controls whether or not the survey results displayed will associate learner responses to learners.
Note: The survey can be configured to not award any points by entering 0 in the Points: field.
- Select the Add a Question tab.
- The Add a Question tab displays.
- Select a question type.
- Enter the question text and select Save Question.
- The Likert scale survey question will be saved as the first question of the survey. To create additional survey questions, select a question type and configure the question as needed.
- When all the required questions have been added, select Add+ to add the Survey block to the page.
- The new Survey block will now appear on the page in the edit page view. Select the Publish My Edits button to save the Survey block to the page.
- Once the changes are published, the Survey block displays as it will appear to learners.
Adding a Multiple Choice Multiple Answer question type to the Survey block
As an alternative option, the Poll block, presents a question and provides up to five preconfigured responses from which learners may select a single response. If published, poll results are anonymized. To learn more about the Poll block, refer to How do I add a poll?.
