Note: In order to use the Equation Editor you must have the Equation Editor role assigned to your CourseArc user account. Contact your CourseArc System Administrator to request this role.


The following blocks have a math equation editor button: 

  • Accordions
  • Cloze
  • Content

  • Icon and Link to Popup Text

  • Icon and Text

  • Image Hotspots

  • Instructor Notes

  • Quiz (Question Prompt question type only)

  • Quote
  • Standout
  • Tabs

  • Writing


To insert a math equation in a block, click the math equation editor button.

The MathType equation editor opens as a pop-up window. Use the toolbar buttons to insert symbols and fractions. Use the keyboard to enter numbers and variables.

  • Enter f(x)=a with the keyboard
  • Click the exponent icon
  • Enter b as the base with the keyboard
  • Click the up arrow key to move the cursor into the exponent field and enter x
  • After the equation is entered, click OK to add the equation to the block

The equation will appear in the block. Click the Add Block+ button to save the block.

After adding the block to the page, the equation will appear in edit mode. Publish the page edits to see the math equation displayed as it will appear to learners.
