How do I create a quiz?

Modified on Tue, 24 Feb at 2:37 PM

Quizzes can be created using either the Quiz block or the Quiz Bank Quiz block.

The Quiz Bank Quiz block pulls questions from an existing quiz bank with preconfigured assessment items. For more information, see How do I create a quiz with questions from a quiz bank?.

This article explains who to configure a Quiz block using the following question types: matching, multiple choice (single or multiple answers), ordering, text answer (checked or unchecked), and true/false.

  1. Navigate to the page and select Edit this Page. Find the position you want to add a block and select the plus (+) icon.Screenshot of a blank content page in Edit mode.
  2. From the dropdown, select Add Block.Screenshot of a pop up menu that prompts users to Add Block, Paste from Clipboard, and Add Boilerplate Template
  3. In the Add Block modal, either:
    • Use the Search field to find a block by keyword
    • Select a block from your custom list of Favorites
    • Scroll through the list of All Blocks to select one
    • Use the various Categories to filter by block type

    • Select a star icon to add or remove blocks in your Favorites list

  4. Select the Quiz block. The Add Quiz form will appear. In the Quiz Settings section, complete the following fields:
    • Title: Enter a title for the quiz. The title is not displayed on the course page.
    • Graded?: Select Yes if the quiz should be graded and for the score to be reflected in the grade sent back to the LMS. If No is selected, a score will not be calculated for this activity.
Note: This option will not appear if the course is set to No Tracking or Grading.
    • Show Feedback?: If enabled, feedback is shown to learners after a quiz's Submit button is selected.
    • Allow retries?: Select the Yes option if learners should be able to take the quiz more than once. Select the No option to limit the quiz to a single attempt.
    • Randomize Questions?: Select the Yes option to have the questions presented in random order. The default setting is No.
    • Conditional Release: is an optional feature that must be turned on in Administrative settings. Conditional release uses a single Quiz block to withhold access to any following pages within a module. When the conditional release setting is enabled in a Quiz block, learners must complete the quiz with a designated passing score to gain access to the remaining pages of the module.
To learn more about using this feature, visit the How do I use the conditional release option in the Quiz block? article in our Knowledge Base.Add Quiz modal, showing the quiz settings

  5. Once the Quiz Settings are configured, use the Manage Questions section to add questions. To create a new question, select a question type from the Type of Question: field and complete the associated fields. Click the Save Question button to add the question to the block. Saved questions can be copied using the Copy Question button to form the basis for a new question.
    • Feedback: If enabled in Quiz Settings, each question includes the option to provide feedback. If feedback is not needed, leave the Feedback: fields blank.
Note: Multiple Choice (one answer), Multiple Choice (multiple answers), and True/False questions allow feedback for each answer.
    • Hint: Each question includes the option to give a hint. The Show Hint button will appear on the page as an optional support for learners to use before answering a question. If a hint is not needed, leave the Hint: field blank.Add quiz modal, showing the question and answer form fields
